Behind the Backdrops gives residents a real-world look at giant hand-painted stage art, the tools used to make it, and the stories behind turning a blank piece of fabric into something built for a stage. Kids won’t just hear about creativity. They’ll see the scale, the craft, and the process.
Kids first see the Whimsical Planet up close — a bright, hand-painted world created for this presentation. Later, it drops away to reveal a second hidden backdrop.
After Dawn of Stars is revealed from behind the Whimsical Planet, kids add stars of their own — expanding the universe into a growing record of every community it visits.
This huge Smash Mouth backdrop toured with the band before being donated back for presentations. Kids see a real piece of stage history up close — from the band behind the Shrek-famous song “All Star” — then sign it with crayons.
Like many kids, it started with simple tools, big imagination, and a love for making things. Over time, that path grew into painting world-traveling stage backdrops for iconic classic rock bands. Behind the Backdrops brings that real-world journey back to kids, showing them how early creativity can grow into something much bigger. Visit the Classic Backdrops website.
